Exhibition of Hit’s Collection of Graphics by Primorska Visual Artists at the Nova Gorica-based Park Hotel

Nova Gorica, 5. 2. 2025

Nova Gorica, 4 February 2025 – Starting Wednesday, 5 February, the Hit Hotel Park will host an exhibition of 118 graphic artworks created between 1951 and 1989 by 22 of the most prominent graphic artists from Primorska and the nearby cross-border region. By organizing this exhibition from its own collection, Hit is making a significant cultural contribution to the European Capital of Culture project while also fulfilling its role as a socially responsible and community-oriented company.

On Tuesday, 4 February, the Park Hotel in Nova Gorica officially opened the exhibition, which provides an overview of the creative legacy of 22 outstanding artists who helped shape modern art in the region. The timing aligns with the European Capital of Culture 2025 initiative in the twin towns of Nova Gorica and Gorizia, emphasizing the importance of cross-border cultural connections, where art serves as a symbol of shared values and identity.

The exhibition was conceived, curated, and set up by painter Nataša Gregorič Nabhas, MA in Fine Arts, who described it as follows: “The selection of graphics displayed along the hotel’s corridors is remarkable, featuring works by 22 artists from Primorska, including those from the cross-border area. The exhibition includes 118 pieces of traditional printmaking in various techniques such as drypoint, etching, aquatint, lithography, linocut, woodcut, screen printing, monotype, and mixed media. The collection consists exclusively of works by Primorska artists, arranged in chronological order from 1951 to 1989. The remaining approximately 72 graphic works, either duplicates or pieces by other Slovenian artists, are displayed in the hotel rooms of the Park Hotel. The collection includes internationally recognized artists of all generations and diverse artistic styles.”

Featured Artists: Avgust Černigoj (1898–1985), Lojze Spacal (1907–2000), Riko Debenjak (1908–1987), Bogdan Grom (1918–2013), Vladimir Makuc (1925–2016), Miloš Volarič (1933–2010), Danilo Jejčič (1933), Pavel Medvešček (1933–2020), Zvest Apollonio (1935–2009), Rudi Pergar (1936), Nedeljko Pečanac (1938), Jože Spacal (1939–2020), Klavdij Palčič (1940–2021), Franko Vecchiet (1941), Franc Golob (1941), Boris Zulian (1944–2013), Marjan Kravos (1948), Negovan Nemec (1947–1987), Lucijan Bratuš (1949), Janez Matelič (1950), Klavdij Tutta (1958), Zmago Posega (1959–2009)

Hit’s President of the Management Board, Mr Sandi Brataševec, stated at the opening:
“Just before the official launch of the European Capital of Culture GO! 2025, this exhibition at  the Park Hotel plays an important role in raising awareness of cultural heritage in the area where we operate. We are opening a historical collection of original works that hold invaluable significance. Supporting cultural creation and other socially responsible projects has always been a key part of Hit’s strategic mission.”

Ms Mija Lorbek, Director of GO! 2025, also addressed attendees: “In just a few days, our moment will arrive to show the authentic story of our borderless region to the world. Hit has been a key player in shaping this vibrant townscape and identity. It has contributed to the local community in various ways, including supporting visual artists. Today’s opening of this collection of Primorska graphic artists is significant, not only because it is the only such collection in the Goriška region but also because of its unique placement outside traditional gallery spaces. The borderless spirit of the European Capital of Culture GO! 2025 means that culture transcends conventional frameworks, incorporating elements of sports, gastronomy, and tourism.”

Hit has actively participated in the European Capital of Culture project since its inception—not just as the largest tourism provider but also as a co-creator of cultural experiences. Throughout 2025, Hit will further enrich its offer with cultural events. In addition to the exhibition at the Park Hotel, on February 7, the Perla will host an exhibition of 20 digitally generated artworks by Bogdan Soban. Hit is also joining promotional efforts through the mobile app bulevar.eu (developed by the Nova Gorica-based company Arctur), which allows visitors to explore the cultural landmarks of both Goricas. App users will be able to redeem points for services at Hit’s hotels and restaurants.

Hit is also partnering with GO! 2025 to promote the town and its events. The company is offering “borderless” tourism packages, which combine comfortable accommodations at Hit hotels with a rich selection of additional services and opportunities to explore local culture. These packages are promoted in joint brochures presented at fairs in Slovenia and abroad. Among the highlights: “On the Threshold of the Capital of Culture package allows guests to experience the region’s cultural heritage in the unique setting of the Sabotin Hotel, an 18th-century late Baroque country villa known for hosting photography and art exhibitions. The “Borderless Flavours & Art” package at the Park Hotel offers a unique experience of culture and tourism, including a stay in a hotel room decorated with prints by Primorska artists, a tour of the exhibition of Slovenian and cross-border Primorska graphic artists, and a gourmet experience with a Borderless Flavours tasting menu at the renowned Tiffany restaurant.
